Both the town/city of Wheeler and Wheeler County are titled for Royall Tyler Wheeler, a chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court. Wheeler is positioned at 35 26 33 N 100 16 27 W (35.442424, -100.274068). The town/city is three miles northwest of the center of the county and is 100 miles east of Amarillo and 12 miles west of the Texas-Oklahoma line.
