In 1849, the Harrison and Brown stagecoach stop was assembled in Selma to handle passengers and freight on the San Antonio to Austin stagecoach line.

By 1885, the populace was 145, and at the turn of the century, the populace peaked at 600.

Selma's populace dropped to 100 in 1940.

Selma has territory in Guadalupe, Bexar and Comal counties.

The coordinates of the town/city center, 29 35 4 N 98 18 21 W, is positioned in northern Bexar County.

But City Hall, at 9375 Corporate Drive, is positioned in Guadalupe County, athwart the border from the town/city center.

The town/city is bordered by Schertz to the east, Universal City to the south, Live Oak to the southwest, and part of San Antonio to the northwest.

The center of Selma is 18 miles (29 km) northeast of downtown San Antonio and 13 miles (21 km) southwest of New Braunfels.

According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 5.1 square miles (13.1 km2), of which 0.004 square miles (0.01 km2), or 0.09%, is water. The ethnic makeup of the town/city was 86.55% White, 4.57% African American, 1.14% Native American, 1.27% Asian, 0.38% Pacific Islander, 3.93% from other competitions, and 2.16% from two or more competitions.

In the town the populace was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 31.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older.

About 5.1% of families and 5.5% of the populace were below the poverty line, including 7.8% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
