Karnes City is a town/city in Karnes County, Texas, United States.

It is the governmental center of county of Karnes County. The town was titled after Henry Karnes of the Texas Revolution. Karnes is some twenty-five miles south of Floresville on U.S.

In 1894, as a result of a special election, the governmental center of county was moved from Helena to Karnes City.

Then, in a bitterly contested election, the governmental center of county was moved to Karnes City, and Helena faded away into a ghost town.

Karnes City is positioned at 28 53 N 97 54 W (28.8882, -97.9013). According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 2.1 square miles (5.4 km2) all land.

Karnes City is about 60 miles (97 km) southeast of San Antonio. As of the census of 2000, there were 3,457 citizens , 1,007 homeholds, and 720 families residing in the city.
