The town/city is 10 miles (16 km) south of Fort Worth and 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Dallas.

Alvarado is bordered to the east by Venus, to the west by Keene, to the north by Burleson and to the south, though the town/city limits do not connect, by Grandview.
